Suzume Sodumu was a bushi of the Sparrow Clan and he was known to be extremely loyal to the Sparrow Daimyo Suzume Yugoki. In 1172 he was assigned to a group that were hunting bandits in the provinces. During the journey Takayasu revealed he was an infiltrator within the Sparrow, and told his orders were to assassinate Sodumu, assuring that he died in the bandit attack. However, Sodumu's demeanor annoyed Takayasu so much that the infiltrator decided to confront him in the open.
