A system is stable if it consists of or is dominated by a degenerative feedback loop, i.e. if the number of negative correlators is odd (negative feedback). Of note, in stable systems the structure that generates the behaviour is in any case the same, i.e. there is an odd number of negative relationships resulting in negative (degenerative) feedback. However, the existence of limiting factors can be an additional source of stability.
