George Mulliner was a friend of Handel Gartside's who joined him and Ena Sharples and Minnie Caldwell for a double-date at the Tea House on Peel Street. George had been specially invited to keep Ena company and so that she wouldn't feel left out with Minnie and Handel being together but he was only interested in his hobby of meteorology and Ena quickly bored of his talk about anti-cyclones over the North Sea, asking him tartly if he knew Albert Tatlock. When the talk moved on to fine singing voices, George and Minnie were left out as Ena and Handel found common ground and happily chatted to each other, much to Minnie's annoyance.
