Contemplations was a work of literature by the Romulan author tr'Hmaellieh. One line from this text referred to the Elements as follows: "The Elements lead those who will ... And those who won't, They drag." (TOS - Rihannsu novel: The Empty Chair) The Empty Chair uses the above line as an epigraph at the start of the novel.
