He stayed for a time at Forst Reach, and was the first to identify the young Vanyel Ashkevron as talented, but not Gifted. While Shanse didn't have the Bardic Gift himself, he could identify it when he heard it. He reported back that Vanyel had a natural ear and musicality, but could never be accepted to Bardic Collegium for anything beyond common minstrel training. While at Forst Reach, Shanse did take advantage of Vanyel's ear for pitch, and put the boy in charge of tuning his instruments.
