Clinton was an employee of the Jessyk Combine of Mesa working in the Monica System. In 1921, he forwarded dispatches for Captain Teach of the freighter Copenhagen, taking a 200-dollar bottle of Daniels-Beam as a bribe. He was unaware that Captain Teach was actually Commander Ansten FitzGerald of the Royal Manticoran Navy, who was in the system to obtain information of the Monican Navy's secret military build-up.
