Véronique Sarrazin was elected to Parliament in April 3343. Prior to her election, she was a noted economist and reporter. In 3348, she contested the leadership of the party but won only 3%. Shortly after her defeat, James Sharpe appointed her to the cabinet as Minister of Food and Agriculture. After Sharpe's death, Sally Wingo became interim leader of the party and Prime Minister. Sarrazin was narrowly elected by the parliamentary party to become leader, however, Parliament rejected her bid to become Prime Minister.
