Dieter Kleist is the personal chronicler of Etrius despite his status as a foreign vampire from outside the pyramid. Kleist was born in Berlin and met Etrius in his early years. Soon, the vampire managed to hire Kleist to be his tailor, so he had to visit Etrius at least once a year in Vienna to deliver his latest creations. During one of these visits, Etrius told Kleist what he really was and offered the mortal to follow him into the night. Unfortunately, a Toreador heard about the imminent Embraced, abducted Kleist and embraced him. Etrius raged, brought the object of his desire back to his chantry and taught the neonate the Kindred's customs, supposedly using the Blood Bond to ensure his loyalty.
