The Low Lake was a clear, deep pool beneath Long Fell, shaped like a seven-pointed star. But for the island at its center and a pair of rocky shelves that served as the lower landings of the stairways that entered the chamber, the lake occupied the whole of the cavern that bore its name. Hundreds of graceful Loons tied the water and, at night, turned the chamber into a choral hall.
