The Treaty of Richmond (signed April 7, 1863) was signed between Union generals Ulysses S. Grant and William Sherman and Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The treaty brought an end to the five-year American Civil War, or known as the Confederate War for Independence, and the United States was forced to recongize the Confederate States. The US was forced to hand over the Arizona Territory claimed by the Confederate States, as well as the Indian Territory.
