Mattingly was a Grayson citizen and a member of the Grayson Space Navy. He had a younger brother named Simon, who later became a member of the Harrington Steadholder's Guard. In 1903 PD, he served aboard the destroyer GNS Saul. He was killed when the ship was shot into wreckage in the Battle of Blackbird. (HH4)
