The Chinook Republic was founded in the aftermath of the Chinook Civil War which brought an end to the First Chinook Kingdom. It was led by a council, containing one representative of the 16 tribes: the Cathlamet, Cathlahmahs, Chilluckittequaw, Chacowah, Clackamas, Clowwewalla, Cushook, Echelut, Elwahko, Kilooklaniuk, Tolo, Wahkikum, Wappato, Waltlata, Wasco, and the Wishram.
