Buffle was a male shrew Dibbun who liked to follow Muggum's group around Redwall Abbey. Buffle spoke in gibberish, which was often translated by his fellow Dibbuns (though later on in the book some of his speeches start to make more readable sense). Sister Setiva also learned to comprehend his gibberish. Mentally, he was actually rather clever, when one could understand him. It was he who came up with the idea to throw Gurvel's excess sack of Hotroot Pepper at the attacking vermin, which in turn inspired the highly successful Pepper Bombs.
