Rin-T-Yar was a Kig Yar POW during the Loss of Hope under the capture of Riley-G311 and several others in the caverns below a rural farmhouse outside Port Neandra. He was forced to lead the small task force through the maze like tunnel. Upon the first signs of planetary instability, he took advantage and fled ahead into the Forerunner complex before him, and leading the Human force into a trap. When they had managed to overthrow the Covenant presence, Rin-T-Yar escaped and regrouped, feeling as though his escape was a 'blessing from the gods'.
