Prince Don Paolo Sayd Aquilina-Mercieca was a son of Prince Don Santo Sayd Vella and Princess Donna Victoria Sayd Vella Aquilina-Mercieca. On the 15th day of September, 1726, Prince Don Paolo married Miss Rose Xerri-Zerafa, daughter of Antonio Xerri and Margaret Zerafa, at the Collegiate-Basilica Sanctuary of the Nativity of Our Lady, Xaghra, Gozo, Malta. Being Prince Don Sayd, Prince Don Paolo was an owner and possessor of the old precious 'Sayd Princely Ring'. He was a patrilineal descendant of Sultan Mehmed II of Turkey through the latter's son, Cem Sultan.
