Carlos Coloma (1567-1637) was a Spanish commander, diplomat and historian. * 1567: born in Elda, thefourth son of Juan Coloma y Cardona, Count of Elda * 1581: alferez. Served in Portugal, Sicily and Flanders. * 1604: ambassador to England. * 1612: Viceroy of Mallorca. * 1621: commander in Flanders. * 1625: published La Guerra de los Estados Bajos (Antwerp). * 1634: retired to Spain. Translated the Annals of Tacitus into Spanish.
