An identification tape or ID tape was a type of microtape that stored biographical information on individuals. The USS Enterprise's library had an ID tape on Doctor Simon Van Gelder. It showed that he had been assigned to the Tantalus Colony as Dr. Tristan Adams' associate six months prior to their cargo exchange in 2266. (TOS: "Dagger of the Mind" )
