Edie Burgess (née Bishop) was the sister of Ernie Bishop and married to Sidney Burgess. They were well suited as a couple in that he was a moaning hypochondriac, constantly whined about his back, stomach and all manner of ailments which she fully supported and sympathised with. At the same time, they were a pair of penny-pinching liars who tried to fleece money off anyone they could while supposedly enjoying a good income from Sidney's greengrocer's shop in Barrow-in-Furness.
