The photonic missile was a projectile weapon. It came in various sizes. Starting from the late 23rd century, the most common shipboard missile was the photonic missile, used by several species, namely the Kzintis, the Klingons and later the Gorn. There was at least one instance of Federation-mounted photonic missiles on small craft. (Star Fleet Battles, Star Trek Online, VOY: "Extreme Risk") Valkyrie-class fighters could fit eight R-5162 photonic missiles or two full-sized photon torpedoes.
