The UNSC Defence Forces Colonial Guard are a volunteer militia force organized by and under the subordinate command of the UNSC Army. The Colonial Guard serve as a federally-recognized paramilitary militia on UEG colonies, acting as both a reserve force for the UNSC Army, as well as a complementary service; Colonial Guard units are expected to perform military duties on their respective colonies, in place of or in complement to locally garrisoned Regular Army units, and are considered subordinate to colonial Army Ground Forces Commands. UNSC Colonial Guardsmen are trained locally at standard military UCMB's as reservist personnel, and are equipped and supplied with equipment, materiél, weaponry, and vehicles by local Regular Army garrisons.
