The real school's uniforms are effectively the opposite of the school uniform in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya series. In-universe, the school does not have a reputation for academic advancement. Sasaki considered it surprising that good students like Kunikida went there. North High is located on a hill (which Kyon must climb each school morning) but its location gives it a good view of the ocean on the other side of the city.
