Hanami was born in Kirigakure to two as yet unnamed parents, who had fled the Land of Ice Crystals. When Hanami was twelve years old, she was sent on a mission with her genin teammates to a village near Dokugakure. Yashagorō had been interested in her since he found out about her skill in medial ninjutsu, as well as her Glass Release. Yashagorō slaughtered Hanami's teammates and sensei. He then brought the girl to Dokugakure, where she served as a jailer for the many people Yashagorō kept imprisoned.
