In 1993, he was working as a police office in Chicago, Illinois, involved in an investigation of a serial killer. During the course of the investigation, he met the fascinating Katherine. They fell madly in love, and she trusted him with the secret of her immortality. He left the police department, and they married. They then went to work together, dealing with situations others could not handle alone but were reluctant to go to the police, such as their rescue of a mob daughter from a kidnapper in 1998. They have received at least two commendations for their work.
