Co-operative Group Limited, trading as The Co-operative Group, is a United Kingdom consumers' co-operative, and one of the world's largest consumer-owned businesses, with 85,000 employees across all its businesses. Regional and local retail societies are corporate members of the Group. In July 2008, the Group announced a deal to purchase the Somerfield chain of 900 supermarkets and convenience stores for £1.57 billion.
