Talaxian pigweed shallot was a food ingredient, a type of plant lifeform resembling a variety of onion from the Delta Quadrant, a product of the Talaxian civilization of the planet Talax, where they were grown from the Riparian corridors of the Heelox river. This fungus was part of the culinary repertoire of the Talaxian traveler Neelix, in particular used to make mushroom soup. Neelix's mushroom soup recipe recommended a blend of Nezu candy-tufted mud fungus and pigweed shallots to create the basis for his version of Talaxian mushroom soup. (ST reference: Star Trek Cookbook)
