"The Yellow Rose of Texas," a traditional Texas ballad dating to 1858, was lip-synched to on Sam and Friends, using Stan Freberg's take-off of a recent Mitch Miller recording. The skit featured Kermit wearing a neckerchief and cowboy hat as the lead singer, dealing with an out of control glove puppet "Yankee" snare drummer. A glove puppet banjo player also comes in strumming and then leaves. Kermit also performed the routine on The Steve Allen Show on April 21, 1957.
