The first inter-dale war occurred in 1232 DR between Archendale and Sessrendale, and lasted three weeks. It ended in victory for Archendale, and the annihilation of Sessrendale. The forces of Archendale led an invasion of Sessrendale after the "mysterious" Dusk Lord, ruler of Sessrendale, was judged to be using necromancy and that "evil raiders" were being harbored there. Although "powerful magic" was used by Sessrendale in the conflict, it led to the slaying of the Dusk Lord, and the Swords of Archendale ordered an annihilation of Sessrendale by burning its buildings and salting its earth.
