Sergi started out with sports playing tennis at CT Barcino, but his grandfather – Jordi – sensed his football qualities and set him up for a test with the FC Barcelona Escuela – the club’s school. He passed it and in a few months Andres Carrasco captured him for the club’s Benjamin B team. Ever since then, he has been moving up categories and teams, always playing the role of a key piece and captain in his respective teams. Besides Carrasco, he has been under many of the important coaches at La Masia, including: Jordi Condom, Sergi Domenech, Victor Sanchez, Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta, and this season he is under Oscar Garcia’s orders – Johan Cruyff’s assistant coach in the Catalan national team.
