Shinya Zekkū (是空 深夜 Zekkuu Shinya; Literally meaning Righteous Air Late at Night) is the current Captain of the 3rd Division, having replaced the temporary Rōjūrō Otoribashi. He is a fanatically loyal subordinate who also poses extreme skill in various forms of Shinigami combat. He is particularly renown for his attitudes against combat, which he insists on preaching to the rest of the Gotei 13. His lieutenant is Kira Izuru and he is known to be fond of Usuie Ukita due to his unique goals.
