Tom Schofield was the son of Ena Sharples's brother Tom. Tom's father emigrated from the UK to America in 1912 and was married there. Tom never visited his ancestral home to see his family but his son, also named Tom, made two visits there in 1965 and 1973, bringing Ena along with him when coming home after the first trip to see her brother for the first time in 53 years.
