Smash Island VIII was the eighth tournament in the Smash Island tournament series and the fifth to include a Super Smash Flash 2 event. The tournament was hosted by Dark Ermac and held on December 7th, 2014. By this point in time, participation from Reddit users reached an all-time low, resulting in abysmal attendance to all non-SSF2 events, to the point where some of them were cancelled outright. As a result, this was the last tournament to feature games other than SSF2.
