He played junior hockey for the Barrie Colts and senior for the Niagara Falls Cataracts in 1938-39. Dyte then played three seasons in the Eastern Hockey League and was an all-star twice. In 1942-43 he played for the Montreal Royals. In 1943-44 he signed as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks and played 27 games, scoring one goal. He then played two seasons in the American Hockey League and retired in 1946. After coaching a local intermediate team in his hometown of New Liskeard for two seasons, he made a one-season comeback with the North Sydney Victorias in 1948-49.
