In the Revised Common Lectionary, Ordinary Time is the season of time not allocated to the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, or Easter, nor to the festivals of Epiphany or Pentecost. The term comes not from the English word "ordinary" but rather from the term "ordinal" meaning numbered, and came into usage following the Second Vatican Council.
