Bruno Scheurl was a soldier in the German military in the 2040s. He was part of the long retreat back west into Ukraine after the Chinese broke the German lines in Russia. During the course of the retreat, he made his way into Kiev. For a time, he walked with fellow German Jürgen Sack to Dynamo Stadium in order to regroup with their respective units. When they entered the stadium, Scheurl used the Russian he learned in school to explain the monument dedicated to the Death Match to Sack. Upon entering, Sack found his unit, and parted company with Scheurl.
