The Authority is an organization controlled by The Authority, who has assumed the role of God. The books culminate in a war against the Authority, with Lyra and the others of her faction eventually succeeding. They had complete control of the Kingdom of Heaven, and of The Land of the Dead. They were mostly made up of angels, although they had human organizations, like the Magisterium, working for them.
