[Source] Implant armors were a model of armor implanted under the skin and increased protection, especially for vital organs. Favored by spies, infiltrators, and other clandestine operatives, implant armor was used when wearing more traditional and obvious armor would draw too much attention. Typically consisting of thin ceramic and plasteel plates, these plates are implanted under the skin where they can absorb damage with little serious damage to the tissue underneath.
