Nicknames are a time-honored tradition of TTB. Each recurrent Tanookiteer is eventually assigned one. A formal poll was usually made to decide a newcomer's nickname. However, this practice was discontinued after the controversial Tanooki Civil War. Currently, nicknames are unofficially given to newcomers - usually involving some portion of their screenname.
