Wa Shogi (和将棋, Wa Shōgi, Peaceful Chess) is a large board variant of Shogi (Japanese Chess). The game (also known as Yamato Shogi) was first mentioned in literature in the 17th century. In Wa Shogi, all of the pieces are named after a type of animal.
