On February 13, 2155, Doug Hayes competes with Chandler Masterson (mirror) and Aidan MacKenzie (mirror) for a position to become the new Tactical Officer on the USS Defiant (NCC-1764), upon the death of Malcolm Reed (mirror) (In Between Days: Throwing Rocks at Looking Glass Houses). While preparing for the Empress Hoshi Sato (mirror)'s competition, Doug recalls his parents, Lena Beckett Hayes and Jeremiah Hayes, sending him to boarding school, on August 20, 2109.
