Léon Ajzenstat was elected to Parliament in April 3323 at the age of 25. In 3332, he contested the leadership of the Liberal Party and came in third place. He won 26% of the vote, only behind Albert Tonks and Claude Desmarais. In 3340, he was narrowly defeated by Desmarais in his bid to inherit the leadership from the newly ousted Tonks. Following his defeat, Desmarais named him Minister of Environment and Tourism.
