The indri, or babakoto, is the largest Madagascan lemur. It travels in giant leaps or climbs trees vertically. Local taboos forbid hunting the indri, so it's biggest threat is habitat destruction. Increased forest clearing is the result of Madagascar's exploding human population, and most of the trees that provide leaves for the indris to eat have been cut down. The Indri, (Indri indri), is a species of lemur native to Madagascar. It is related to sifakas and is also called the Babakoto.
