Bernard Giscard was a French sergeant who served during World War I. When his friend Alain Moreau was placed in command of the 9th Belgian Infantry in 1916 and promoted to lieutenant, Moreau chose Giscard as his first officer, making the Belgians' Henri Defense his second. Giscard was killed in a German ambush during the Battle of the Somme.
