Franz Oppenhoff was the head of the Department of Germanic Studies at Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin. A true adherent to Nazism, Oppenhoff was quite offended by Susanna Weiss' independence of will and scholarship, believing she should be a good Hausfrau rather than an academician.
