Long ago, when the world was very different, a weak and incompetent king ruled a kingdom to the south. He thought himself a generous king, a philanthropist. He drained the treasury constructing grand monuments, theatres, temples, building homes for the homeless and growing food for the poor. More and more gold flowed away while neighbouring kingdoms chuckled in their fists, waiting for the moment when the king could no longer afford an army.
