Samuel "Sam" Bateman (born 8 October 1986) is the son of Mike and Tess Bateman. He first interviewed for a receptionist job at the ED, but ended up being an emergency care assistant instead when he missed the interview. Sam is the eldest of Tess Bateman's two children and still lived at home with the rest of the family when he worked in the ED. He has a good relationship with both his parents but is spending more time out of the house in an effort to gain independence.
