The differences and similarities of the value systems of collaborative participants are likely to impact the success and failure of collaborative processes, as well as the nature of the process, media and outputs. An inquiry into current value system research with the objective of developing a framework for helping understand why, how, when, where and with whom people collaborate might increase the likelihood for successful instances of collaboration, as well as informing the conscious deployment of collaboration as a strategy for problem solving.
