Earl Askam (1895-1940) played Officer Torch, the captain of Ming the Merciless's guards, in the 1936 Flash Gordon serial. Askam was a screen and stage actor who appeared in dozens of films and serials, including Madam Satan (1930), Cain and Mabel (1936) and Pioneers of the West (1940).
