In the Ultimate Comics, the Green Goblin has a similar, but slightly different role. Norman Osborn was actually the man responsible for the creation of Spider-Man. Oscorp created a mutagen known as OZ. It was part of their research into super soldiers for S.H.I.E.L.D. Instead of wearing a costume that resembles the Green Goblin, Norman Osborn was mutated into a giant Hulk-like Goblin.
