During the Occupation of Bajor, the Cardassian Kotan Darek threatened the Bajoran architect Charna Sar by claiming that he would destroy the Barodeem unless she helped him design a space station that was to serve as a mining platform above Bajor. As her ancestors had constructed the Barodeem in the past, Sar reluctantly agreed to help Kotan Darek and the Cardassian Union began construction of the space station. (DS9 comic: "Terok Nor") The comic which features the Barodeem initially refers to it under that name but on the next page it has Darek refer to it as the Baradeem.
