We already do. Remember, Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space over forty years ago, and Armstrong and Aldrin were the first men on the Moon several years after that. If you mean fancier means of space travel, well, that's almost impossible to answer, because we don't even know if the ways of space travel made popular by science fiction are in fact possible.
